A story of two growing girls and their bathroom glow-up.
All interiors in the story are original work by Founder, Rachel Anderson, photographed by Evernew.
Children’s spaces have a way of revealing when a family has entered a new season. As two sisters entered their last years of elementary school, their shared bathroom was ready to grow up alongside them.
The existing space wasn’t functioning well for their family—and rather than simply replacing what was there, we saw an opportunity to create something that would serve the girls through many changing seasons ahead.
Here’s how we got from the before to the after.
BEAUTY THAT WORKS
Sweetness Without a Theme
Designing for children doesn’t have to mean choosing a theme they will eventually outgrow.
Here, playfulness comes through shape, color, and small moments of surprise. The softly scalloped mirrors bring a graceful sense of movement, while the green backplates on the sconces add an unexpectedly charming detail. Pale green walls envelop the room in a fresh, gentle color that feels youthful without feeling juvenile (a request by the girls).
A floral shower curtain, vintage-inspired artwork, and whimsical little storage containers add layers of personality. Together, these details give the bathroom sweetness and imagination while allowing the permanent elements to remain timeless.
DESIGNING FOR TWO
Two Girls, One Shared Routine
Shared spaces like bathrooms ask a great deal from their designs—especially during busy mornings and bedtime routines.
A long double vanity in a waterproof finish gives each sister her own sink and mirror, while the generous counter allows them to share the room without constantly competing for space. Drawers and cabinets provide designated homes for the many small things a bathroom collects, helping everyday routines feel a little calmer and easier to manage.
Soft green walls, scalloped mirrors, floral details, and charming little touches keep the space youthful and playful, while classic stone surfaces and matte-black fixtures give it the polish and durability of a much more grown-up room.
The result is a children’s bathroom that doesn’t feel childish: sweet without being overly themed, elegant without feeling precious, and practical enough for everyday family life.
POLISHED BUT NOT PRECIOUS
Made For Everyday Life
Every finished space must receive the household’s official seal of approval.
A children’s bathroom needs to do more than photograph beautifully. It has to withstand splashes, clutter, hurried mornings, long baths, and all the ordinary messiness of family life.
Hardworking surfaces, plentiful closed storage, and durable fixtures form the practical foundation of the room. The expansive vanity keeps necessities close at hand while giving them places to disappear when not in use. Matte-black hardware adds definition and contrast, grounding the softer colors and decorative shapes throughout the space.
The result is a room that feels polished without becoming precious—a bathroom meant to be fully lived in, not carefully preserved.
